Holdrege, NE --- As part of Radon Awareness Month in January, Two Rivers Public Health Department (TRPHD) is encouraging area residents to protect their health by testing their homes for radon.  Exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. It is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and causes 15,000 lung cancer deaths per year.

TRPHD recommends that all homes be tested for radon.  Radon can build up to dangerous levels in homes, particularly in lower areas such as basements and crawl spaces. Homes should be tested every two years, even if a radon abatement system is in place. If your home does test high for radon, TRPHD can also provide technical support to assist in your mitigation decisions.

Radon test kits are available from TRPHD for only $10. The test kits are easy to use, and only require 5-7 days of testing.  If you have questions about your test, TRPHD will be happy to answer any questions you may have, and walk you through the testing process. Radon test kits are available for pick up at the Holdrege office at 701 4th Avenue, or at the Kearney Location at 3715 29th Avenue, Suite A2. To have a radon test kit mailed, call (888) 669-7154.

For information regarding radon or if you have any questions, please call TRPHD at (888) 669-7154.
